How Often Should I Update My Website?

Many businesses, no matter the size, put off developing a website or go for long periods of time without updating their site content. Normally, the reason is along the lines of “We have too much on, we just dont have time to put into a website” or “Our websites on the agenda but we can’t afford to keep paying someone to update it”.

In the past these were all valid points, when website content was static and could not be updated - Back then, the only way to change your website content was to contact your web designer (normally to be a costly exersise!).

Now, most websites include content that can be updated using a Content Managment System or CMS. A CMS is normally used to update simple text, links, images and menu items but can be used for many other useful functions like events calendars, blogs, forums, news articles and lots more.

A content management system is a software tool used to manage content through an interface layer. In practical terms, this means that instead of going through the process above to manage web page content, instead you would visit your web site, click a link to the content you’re looking for, edit the content via a simple form, and click another button to save the changes.

While I’ve only chosen a couple of simple illustrations for how using a content management system can make the management of your web site much easier, it should be enough to help you determine if you should be using a content management system for your web site. Using a CMS can save you time and help you develop content more quickly and efficiently with less mistakes.

So, there’s really no longer any need to be daunted by the complicated aspects of updating your website! Contact a web designer, to set you up initially, and then the world wide web is yours.
